Handling & verification

Glutathione (GSH) is the endogenous tripeptide γ-Glu-Cys-Gly and the principal intracellular thiol redox buffer. It is supplied in reduced form as a reference compound for in vitro redox and oxidative-stress work, and ships as a white lyophilized powder, HPLC-verified at ≥99% purity.

Presentation and storage

Supplied lyophilized in a sealed vial. Store the sealed vial at −20 °C for long-term storage; refrigeration at 2–8 °C is adequate over shorter periods. Keep away from light and moisture.

Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening, so atmospheric moisture does not condense onto the cake. The free cysteine thiol oxidises readily to the disulphide dimer (GSSG) on exposure to air and moisture, so keep the vial tightly sealed and reconstitute shortly before use.

Reconstitution

Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water. Direct the stream down the inside wall of the vial rather than onto the cake, then let it stand and swirl gently — do not shake, as agitation can denature the peptide.

  • 1500 mg vial in 10 mL diluent gives a 150 mg/mL stock
  • 1500 mg vial in 15 mL diluent gives a 100 mg/mL stock
  • 1500 mg vial in 30 mL diluent gives a 50 mg/mL stock

Once reconstituted, store at 2–8 °C and protect from light. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles — aliquot the stock if it will be drawn on more than a few times. Our reconstitution calculator works out any other combination.

How do I reconstitute Glutathione?

Add bacteriostatic water slowly down the inner wall of the vial so the stream does not strike the powder directly, then let it dissolve on its own — swirl gently if needed, never shake.
